For the 3rd year on the trot, Neil and I have celebrated New Year's Eve by dressing up war-time at The Mesmerist, 'the most unconventional bar in the Brighton lanes'. It's a venue inspired by the gin palaces of the 1930s, with a grand spiral (ish) staircase, on site vintage hair parlour and loads of quirky bunkers to get lost in watching a handful of cracking 40s and 50s acts.
As a pro-photographer, Neil's asked to pap all the drunken shenanigans of the night and every year promises some really fab vintage photos from crowd shots to burlesque dancers and speakeasy trios.
I thought I'd upload a few pre-drunken snaps over here, to show you all what fun it was dressing for a completely different era. I'm never the most spot-on when it comes to fancy dress. It's usually a last minute nip to Beyond Retro, a serious stock up on some hairspray, quick look around youtube for some tutorials and then it's out the door after a few merry G & T's. But regardless, we brought in the New Year with some of our favourite people in style :)
The last photo is a scanned in polaroid of me I found in a hungover haze as I was looking through my bag the next morning. I'd love to elaborate further on a story behind this but I totally can't. Shameless drunkenhood.
How was your New Year's Eve celebrations? If you have any posts on how you celebrated, link me up so I can have a nose ;)
Oh and why not have a look at other photos from the night. Some really great fancy dress to be seen!
