How to create a cosy autumn corner in your home | Autumn Decorating Ideas
Calling all autumn lovers!
We've created a cosy autumn look in our living room and after sharing it on Instagram and with our Happy Home Club members we got such an amazing response to how we styled it so affordably. In this post we're going to show you how to create a similar, cosy look in your home, for all the autumnal vibes!
Autumn interiors can often be left to a few pumpkins on the mantlepiece, but there's more you can do to create a hygge, warm and comforting space to relax in at the end of the working day that costs next to nothing.
Read on for lots of affordable (and some of them are FREE) autumn decor ideas.
Before I start, this post is in collaboration with Studio, a brand I've been working closely with this year to share affordable home looks with you. To read about more details on our partnership click here.
On to the autumn styling!
5 affordable ideas to create a cosy autumn corner in your home
1. Introduce all the blankets
If you're anything like me, you're a blanket hoarder! A house can never have too many. If you regularly have guests staying, they're great to pull out for extra bedding, and when the evenings start to get chilly they can save you a few pounds as a more eco-friendly option than switching on the heating. So my first tip is to dig out all of your blankets and dot them all over your living room or bedroom for ultimate cosy times. This fleecy pom pom throw I selected from Studio is velvety soft and great for pulling over us when we're tucking into a box set during the evenings.
2. Create a leaf garland
If you caught my autumn living room makeover you'll have spotted the easy DIY we did in creating these simple garlands to decorate our alcove shelving. Pick up some leaves from your garden, local park or nearby woods and peg them onto a piece of garden twine lining your shelves or fireplace. It’s a completely free DIY if you’ve got the materials in like I did, and it makes for a lovely morning outing enjoying the autumn colours in your area.
3. Have hand cream at the ready
With the weather getting colder often hands be the first to feel the effects of the change, getting dry or cracked. If you suffer from this too, have some hand cream beside the place you chill out in the evenings as a visual reminder to apply often. I am obsessed with all things William Morris and Studio stock some items with his prints on. I snapped up this William Morris Trilogy Gift Set and apply the hand cream whenever I'm sitting in this corner on my laptop answering emails in the evening.
4. Make your corner smell autumn
There's nothing quite like it when a room smells seasonal. It's often Christmas candles people purchase, but autumn scents are every bit as comforting, and the flicker of a candle really relaxing. I picked up a Glade candle that is an autumn limited edition on my weekly shop in Asda to see if it throws out a strong smell when it's lit. It's not bad I must say, it smells like spices and cinnamon. The smell isn't quite as strong as this White Company dupe candle from Studio which is normally in my office. I decided to have a mix of candles in the living room and light them all at once for cosy vibes.
5. Do a painting with autumn colours
If you are a creative person and have paints and paper stashed away for a rainy day, then autumn is a great excuse to dust off your brushes and do a quick painting to lean on your shelves using reds, mustards and orange colours. There are loads of painting tutorials you can watch on YouTube if you need a bit of direction, or buy a paint-in-numbers kit if you want to take the stress away from deciding what to paint and it ending up a bit mediocre! This beautiful autumnal painting was a birthday gift to me from my best friend Amy. She is so talented!
Those are my 5 tips for creating a cosy autumn corner in your home. Hope you liked them, and don't forget to take a look at Studio's homeware for more affordable, seasonal pieces for your look.
