If you haven’t seen our Master Bedroom renovation reveal, we ripped out and completely transformed this room from a dated, shag-pile carpet with “haunted vibes” 😂to a calm, fresh and timeless space for us to sleep well in.

And like any older property reno, we found some hidden treasures along the way…

When we first got the keys in 2016, we lifted the carpets and revealed newspapers in near pristine condition from circa 1930s (Neil’s taken loads of close up photos in this post if you’re a history buff and want to read them!)

Nearly 5 years on, and a real milestone for us was being able to flick through those very newspapers in our brand new, completely finished Master Bedroom, lounging on our bouncy new bed built by Button & Sprung.

We’ve shared a really in-depth blog about the bedroom renovation and the different parts so head there if you want more detail on certain areas. But in today’s post I want to talk to you a little more about one of the main focal points in any Master bedroom – the bed frame. Because boy, did choosing this element of the design give us grief until we found Button & Sprung and approached them for this collaboration.

Button & Sprung Master Bedroom renovation

We renovated the bedroom during the pandemic which posed its own difficulties. Lead times for one were painfully long (and still are at the time of writing) with many bed frames we were considering being completely out of stock altogether.

As the room neared completion, weeks went by and I realised I still didn’t have an order processing for the bed to finish the room. I had a very specific look that nearly all leading retailers just weren’t offering but in true Fifi style I don’t stop searching until I’ve found the one (my eyes literally went cross eyed scrolling through beds all hours of the evening!)

Our requirements:

  • We wanted an upholstered headboard in a neutral fabric to comfortably sit up to read at night.

  • The headboard height had to be a very specific measurement to leave enough (but not too much) space for the panelled wall to still be revealed

  • We wanted the headboard fixed to the frame so there would be no drilling required to the panelled wall

  • The frame itself I didn’t want to be too bulky, I knew the room couldn’t handle Divan as it’s deceivingly small, especially once a bed was put in – it filled the room. A bed showing some floor underneath it makes a room feel larger.

  • I wanted turned wooden legs on the bed, nothing too modern

  • And the fabric had to compliment the Alpine, All White and Salt colour scheme

You’d think these requirements are fairly straight forward right? 😂

Nothing was coming up trumps until I stumbled across Button & Sprung who specialise in upholstered beds, lovingly built in the UK.

What was an immediate yes for me, was the level of customisability Button & Sprung give customers to craft their perfect design.

Customising the bed frame design

We chose the King Size Camelia bed frame which was the perfect shape and height against our panelled wall. The subtle wing on either side of the headboard brings that feeling of intimacy and it’s so soft to lean against when sitting up reading being well padded.

We chose from over 80 different fabrics and paid a little bit extra for Button & Sprung’s Soft Wool in Natural. It was worth every penny in the upgrade. It’s a comforting material, soft not itchy, with beautiful flecks throughout the fabric to give it that homely, traditional detail. Overall, it’s this fabric that brings a really homely vibe to the room which we’re really pleased with.

The frame is robust. The first night I slept on it was blissful. Our old bed was a metal frame with slats and rickety to say the least. When one of us moved, the other would be rolled around with them, whereas the sturdiness of this bed frame contributes to a really undisturbed night’s sleep. It’s been a game-changer for our sleep.

Button & Sprung give you the option to choose the stain of leg too, which just shows how they care about the detail – and they know we do too.

We chose the traditional turned Oak feet to virtually match the parquet floor. They arrived with padding underneath each foot which meant no unwanted scratches on the new floors during installation or when we move it to access underneath. Whenever new furniture has ever came into the house, you can usually spot me ready to pounce with furniture pads! So it was a welcome touch I didn’t need to do any cutting and sticking!

Bed frame vs Divan options

Lots of you asked about our bedroom storage and whether what we have in place is enough. We currently have alcove wardrobes, a bedside drawer each and a recent addition is a small chest of drawers (which has remained empty since we assembled it! We’ve got nothing to put in it!).

We’re doing well for storage so far, but I know Button & Sprung offer all the same headboard designs with divan bases if you are looking for more storage in your bedroom(s).

Built-in divan storage is an ideal solution for smaller rooms with limited space for furniture or built in joinery. You can very easily access drawers beneath.

Delivery + Assembly

We placed our order in early October last year which would have arrived in Button & Sprung’s pre-Christmas delivery turnaround but as the team were flat out with their customer’s Christmas deliveries we agreed to postpone ours until the New Year. Considering every bed is built lovingly in the UK, the lead times are amazing at 5 to 7 weeks (at time of writing).

The delivery itself was free and the team were super careful, lifting and assembling the bed upstairs in record time, with a smile! They even took the wrapping!

We’ve been stung in the past with delivery drivers who have basically thrown the furniture in (taking the door frame with it!) and ran off – literally! And now, if we ever have sizeable furniture delivered I’m always nervous. Button & Sprung do ALL deliveries themselves. They don’t outsource to delivery companies who get paid for every job and try to get it dropped as fast as poss, they care about their customers right down to the delivery and installation experience and we needn’t have worried!

Conclusion

Nearly 5 months on, we love our Button & Sprung bed even more now than when we first excitedly received the fabric samples and got placing the order.

If you’re at a bit of a loss on where to order your bed, and lead times are just giving you a headache, I strongly urge you to take a look at Button & Sprung’s website for some amazing customisable options to suit all interiors.

A big thank you to Button & Sprung for supporting our bedroom renovation, and a huge thanks to you for reading our blog and being a part of this renovation journey with us :)
