The Annual Autumn Photoshoot | 2018 (+ A Video)
Just when we thought it was coat and scarf weather, the weatherman threw us a weekend that reached 20 degrees in full sun down here in the South last week! Who expected this at the end of October?! Mad.
Perfect timing for our annual autumn photoshoot.
I often think about how fun it is being with a photographer. I get taken along to things Neil wants to photograph, like the Perseids meteor shower, fork lightning on nearby hills, snowfall on daffodils in the middle of spring... The sort of things I would normally sleep through but we're out there recording it and experiencing it, just for the fun. We're outside taking snaps most weekends but every year the most thrilling time for us is when the leaves change and start to fall. The colours in the woods are so beautiful to capture on camera, and we just really enjoy making photos and videos to look back on and remember.
It's become a tradition now that I'll go out and buy myself a new outfit for an autumn shoot together, and in the months leading up to the leaves falling we scout out locations we think will look stunning in the crispness of Autumn - and then go shoot there when the time comes. We always look forward to it and work really well together shooting and filming… Neil as photographer and me as the picky creative director 😂! Our enjoyment working together was the reason we started our company, Elements.
Last year saw us visit Wilderness Woods, the year before that, Stanmer Park Woods and years before that Friston Forest. All stunning parts of the South Downs that we're so lucky to call home.
Looking back on the pics and gifs we made, just for the fun of it is my fave thing to do.
This year it seemed only too fitting to shoot at one of our favourite National Trust properties - Standen House, built and designed by Philip Webb, a close friend of William Morris, with interiors all designed by Morris.
I’m in awe every time we go!
My last blog post I wrote about my love for Morris and the new Morris & Co x H&M clothing line that was soon to launch, and since then, my wardrobe has expanded to house pretty much all the designs so here I am on our annual shoot wearing one of my fave pieces from the Morris collection.
This dress is a mid length, floaty shirt dress in Morris’ stunning print. Admittedly the length isn’t something I would usually choose, but it’s the sort of dress that’s so comfortable to throw on, probably with a long cardigan and big scarf when the temps start dropping further.
I’ve been sharing lots more pics of my Morris & Co clothes on my instagram if you’re interested in seeing... Click here.
And before I go, I’ll leave you with this short film Neil made during our time at Standen House - you’ve got to visit!
Thanks for reading,
Fi (& Neil) xx
